Toronto Transit Commission

The following TTC buses will continue to service the Keele Campus from bus stops on The Pond Road and Ian Macdonald Blvd:

  • Keele 41
  • Downsview 106 (there will increase service on this route to meet the needs of the Village residents)

Discontinued TTC routes include:

  • 196 A & B, effective December 17, 2017, with the opening of the subway

All other transit buses will continue to provide service to the Keele Campus with some route changes and adjustments. Please visit the websites of the individual transit providers for the most up to date information.

When are the new subways at York University going to be opened?

The TTC has announced that the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension Project (TYSSE) will open on December 17, 2017. There are two subway stations on the  Keele Campus;  York University Station and the Pioneer Village Station. The new subway line will provide a connection between the City of Toronto and The Regional Municipality of York (York Region).

Are there changes to the TTC fares when the subway opens?

There are no changes to the TTC fares when the subway opens. However, the Provincial Government recently
announced a co-fare for GO Transit riders who use the TTC; these riders will get a discount of $1.50 when they use a PRESTO Card.

Will there be changes to bus services at York University when the subway opens?

There will be changes to TTC bus services. There will be no TTC bus service from the Harry W. Arthurs Common. All TTC buses will service the Keele Campus from the Pioneer Village Subway Station as of December 17, 2017.

Will there be parking available at the Pioneer Village Station for York University?

Yes. There will be Pay and Display parking available at The Pioneer Village Station.

How often does the subway run?

According to the TTC, trains will operate every 4 – 5 minutes, depending on the time of day.

Can I use my PRESTO card on the new subway stations?

Yes. PRESTO cards can be used at all six subway stations.

Are the subway stations and terminals accessible?

Yes, all new subway stations and terminals are made accessible.

If my last stop is at Pioneer Village Subway Station and I usually go to the Common, how will I get there from the Pioneer Village Subway Station?

If you need to get to the Common, you can either walk across campus from the Pioneer Village Subway Station to the Common, or take the subway from Pioneer Village Station to the York University Subway.

 

GO Transit-Metrolinx

GO Transit buses will continue operations on the Keele Campus at the current location on the Harry W. Arthurs Common. Some GO buses will be stopping at the Highway 407 Station. York University riders do not need to get off at Highway 407, they can remain on the bus and continue to York University.

Will there be any changes to the York U GO train station on Canarctic Drive?

The York U Go Train Station on Canarctic Drive will remain open. The weekly service schedule at the GO train station on Canarctic Drive remains the same For more information, visit GO Transit website

York Region Transit (YRT/Viva)

YRT/Viva buses will continue operations on the Keele Campus at the current location on Ian Macdonald Blvd. Some YRT/Viva routes may include additional stop(s) at Pioneer Village Station, Highway 407 Station and Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station.

  • Route 10 will terminate at the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station.
  • Route 22A will be replaced with the 96 Keele – Yonge.

Do I pay YRT/Viva or TTC fare when I use the subway in York Region?

Customers must pay TTC fare when boarding the TTC subway, and YRT/Viva fare when boarding YRT/Viva
buses.

Will I need to pay an additional fare when transferring to/from YRT/Viva buses and the TTC subway?

Customers must pay a TTC fare when boarding the TTC subway, and a YRT/Viva fare when boarding YRT/Viva buses.

Will all the new stations be equipped with PRESTO card readers?

Yes. All six stations are equipped with PRESTO card readers.

Can I use the YRT/Viva Pay app to board the subway?

No. The YRT/Viva Pay app will not be accepted on the TTC subway. Customers must pay a TTC fare to board the
subway.

 

Brampton Transit

Brampton Transit-Züm 501-501A-501C buses will continue to service the Keele Campus from the current location— Ian Macdonald Blvd. Route 501 will also service the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station.

What subway stations will the 501 and 501A/C Züm Queen route service?

501 Züm Queen will service the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre and York University. 501A/C Züm Queen will continue to service York University (no changes to existing stops).

Where is the 501 Züm Queen stop located at the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre?

The 501 Züm Queen stop is located along Highway 7, near the entrance to the subway station.

Please note: There will be route change to 501 Züm Queen – it will no longer operate via Interchange Way. It will go to Highway 7 to Jane Street, and then continue to York University at its current location. Once the Viva Rapidway is complete, 501 Züm Queen will service the rapidway.

Where on the York University campus is the subway station located? Can I access Züm buses from this station?

The York University Station is located at Ian MacDonald Boulevard and York Boulevard. Züm buses can be accessed from bus stops located on Ian MacDonald Boulevard (where service is currently provided).

Will there be an additional fare to get on the subway when transferring from a Züm bus?

Yes. You will need to pay an additional fare to get on the subway from a Züm bus.

Will I have to pay an additional fare to get on the Züm bus when transferring from the subway?

Yes, you will need to pay an additional fare to get on the Züm bus.
